The headless variety of the white deer family is recent addition to the park. It is a classic example of Darwin's "Survival of the Fittest" theory. After hundreds of years of man hunting animals and mounting heads on family room walls, Mother Nature has genetically fought back and produced this rare headless creature. US Government officials as well was representatives of the Montana Fish & Game Commission are trying to eliminate this mutation before the population gets too large and breeds with the larger herds in the park and throughout Montana.
